Brian Murphy- Head Athletic Trainer
Brian Murphy joined La Sierra University Athletics department as the head
Athletic Trainer in September of 2006. Murphy came to La Sierra
University from Redlands High School where he served as the Head Athletic
Trainer for 20 high school sports for one year. Before Redlands High
School, Murphy spent three years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with UC
Riverside. The first year he served as an intern athletic trainer,
followed by two years as an assistant athletic trainer.
Murphy received his Master of Science
degree in Sports Management from the United
States Sports Academy in July of 2006, and received
a second Master of Science degree in Sports
Medicine from the Academy in June of 2007.
The Belleville, Illinois, native graduated in
2000 with his Bachelors of Science degree in
Athletic Training from McKendree College in
Lebanon, IL.
Brian
is a member of the NATA and his hobbies include
all sport activities, and hiking. He is
married and resides in Rancho Cucamonga with
his wife Lisa, and their son and daughter.

Athletic
Training Updates
- Fall sports due date for all paperwork is
July 24, 2010;
- Winter and Spring sports due date is August
31, 2010
- The paperwork needed to be submitted for
all student-athletes is a pre-participation
physical exam (please choose the correct form
if you are a returner or if you are a first
year student-athlete at La
Sierra) and the Insurance Forms (packet).

All paperwork needs to be completed
in black ink and all originals go to the Head
Athletic Trainer.
5. If you were/are under the care of an
MD for an injury, that particular MD needs to
perform your
physical or at least clear or not clear
your injury. Please be advised that if
you sustained an injury
prior to arriving at La Sierra
University, you may need additional diagnostic
testing before being
allowed to participate in a sport.
La Sierra University is not financially responsible
for any diagnositc
testing.
6.
All Athletic Physicals must be performed
by an MD or a DO only. Campus Health
Services will
provide athletic physicals at a cost of $75
and must be a scheduled appointment. The SPORT
Clinic in
downtown Riverside conducts physicals also at
a cost of $20-$25. Monday Friday 7a-8a and 12p-1p.
These are based on a first come first serve.
Athletics will also host a 1 day physical date
to be
determined.
Please
be advised that a physical is required
for all incoming freshman and
transfer students by the
Campus Health Services and is to be returned
to Campus Health Services.
This physical needs to be
completed whether or not you plan on particpating
in athletics, however, this physical is not
to be
substituted for the athletics physical.
7. All
freshman/transfer student-athletes
need to submit to Campus Health Services an
up-to-date
immunization report and should also have a current
PPD test which has been done in the last 12
months.
If
you do not have a current PPD within the past
year, you will not be cleared for practices
and/or
competitions. If you are planning on staying
in the dorms either at the beginning of the
season or during
the school year, it is highly recommended that
you get the Meningitis shot.

8. All
student-athletes must submit a copy of your
physical (original form to the Athletic
Trainer) to
Campus Health Services to prevent a holdbeing
placed on your account and not allowing
you to register.
